For the Baseball Hobbyist . . . 1916 Sporting News/Felix Mendelsohn M101-5 NEW YORK GIANTS COMPLETE TEAM SET REPRINT ~ Near Mint condition Perfect for the Team Collector “M101-5″ is the catalog designation collectors decades ago gave Felix Mendelsohn’s fine 1916 set. The original cards from this set are now nearly 100 years old. Team sets – to say nothing of the full 200 cards – are not within the budgets of any but the well-heeled hobbyists among us. An excellent feature length article on this set and its companion (M101-4), produced by printer Mendelsohn, appears in the Summer 2008 issue of Old Cardboard magazine. The cards are reproduced in the original (1-5/8″ by 3”) size and feature quality black and white action photographs. The backs are blank. Offered here is a COMPLETE TEAM SET. It is clearly marked REPRINT in the lower right, and is affordable by nearly all! If this team is your favorite – or contains a favored player or two – consider picking it up while it’s available. The New York Giants M101-5 team set contains an unusual card: #92 Benny [Bennie] Kauff who is pictured in his Brooklyn Tip-Tops FEDERAL LEAGUE uniform! (See separate scan of that card.) Kauff was Federal League batting champion both years it was considered a third major league. The Pittsburgh M101-5 team set also contains a similar item: #192 Art Wilson who is pictured in his Chicago FEDERAL LEAGUE uniform! League parity had been very nearly achieved as just three clubs finished above .500 and the difference between first and last place was but 21 games! The following season, McGraw’s minions muscled their way to a good 86-66 fourth place finish – just 7 games away from the title and in ’17 the Giants won the National League title outright.
