Original super RARE 16 Piece Corning Ware “spice of life” set. This offering is the rarest version of the Corning Ware “spice of life” collection. Originally purchased in 1972, the glaze stamp is located on the flat bottom as opposed to the underside of the handles as found in the later versions and the glaze used is referred to as “holographic” instead of the black glaze that later became more commonly issued. This addition was only manufactured from 1972 to 1979 but not all of the later ones from these years continued to exhibit the holographic glaze as Corning changed the color to black and location of the stamp to the underside of the handles. These are the earliest and rarest holographic glaze stamps. I attempted to photograph the stamp but it is very difficult to document accurately due to a combination of lightness, translucency, and iridescence. The set includes a total of 16 pieces including Pyrex lids and the detachable handle. There is a small chip on the rim of one piece (the 5qt casserole) as seen in the photos. All other condition is nearly mint for its vintage, showing light “crazing” in the clear glaze which is normal and I’ve attempted to photograph that as well but it’s hard to show in pictures. In nearly all respects, this set is gorgeous and hard to find in this complete of a set of this particular age of corning ware.
