A great opportunity to own an amazing and impressive cabinet size specimen of exceptionally clear, glassy and well-formed icy blue Fluorite.The key highlights of this impressive specimen are as follows:· This is a great size, solid and heavy chunk of exceptionally clear, transparent and glassy fluorite with no matrix on the back and it also has some Muscovite on the back. This specimen is sturdy and heavy, almost half a pound, and the largest cubic crystal right on the front and center measures 3 cm!· Secondly, this specimen has the most unique color, a shade of Icy Blue with some shades of purple on the back. On the surface of the transparent blue fluorite cubic crystals, you can see nice smooth plus well-defined etched texture surfaces, showcasing complex layers and natural occurring cleavages. The whole fluorite cluster is so clear that it looks like an “iceberg!”· Thirdly, the clear and glassy crystalline planes within exhibit strong double refraction, allowing light to flow through and/or reflect upon it. From MOST of the pictures, you can see the beautiful rainbow hues piercing through when placed under light. How exceptional and gorgeous is that!Please note that natural occurring cleavages are typical with fluorite specimens, especially with a specimen of this size, including some abrasions on the tips and edges due to the excavation process. Specimen Background information:Fluorite is a very popular mineral, composed of calcium and fluorine (CaF2) and it naturally occurs in all colors of the spectrum. It belongs to the Halides group of minerals and it is one of the most varied colored minerals in the mineral kingdom. They can be colorless, white, purple, blue, red, pink, orange, yellow, brown, green, gray, and black or even multicolored and banded. In fact, the word “fluorescent” is derived from the mineral Fluorite. The name of the element fluorine is also derived from Fluorite, as Fluorite is by far the most common and well-known fluorine mineral.Pure Fluorite is colorless; the color variations are caused by various impurities. Some colors are deep, and are especially pretty in large well-formed crystals, which Fluorite often forms. Fluorite is deposited in veins by hydrothermal processes. The characteristic purple, green, and yellow translucent-to-transparent appearance of fluorite is an immediate visual clue for the mineral.Fluorite is very easy to identify if you consider cleavage, hardness, and specific gravity.
