The Little International Series are some of Josef Originals rarest figurines. In this sale you will find: Italy Portugal Sweden Holland Germany Muriel created the original 18 dolls of this series in 1959, and 11 more were added over the years. Italy – Dressed in a beautiful dark pink gown with puff sleeves and gold trim around the neckline and waist. She has dark brown hair covered in a blue scarf, tied on the side. She is carrying a bunch of grapes with golden leaves and has more in the basket. She does not have an original sticker any longer, but copyright Josef Originals is etched on the bottom. I have seen others with a curlicue sticker, which represents the 60s and made in Japan. Portugal – She is the most colorful, wearing a yellow gown trimmed in gold along the neckline, waist, and sleeves, covered by a lovely green and white striped apron adorned with pale pink flowers along the hem. She also wears a burnt orange colored shawl with black trim. Her hair is medium brown and has a pink flower on the side. She has a gold and black Portugal sticker on the front and a Josef Originals black and gold sticker on the side. This sticker has a curlicue, which represents the earliest production in Japan after moving from California in 1960. Copyright Josef Originals is etched on the bottom. Sweden – This girl is enchanting. She holds a bouquet of blue flowers with golden leaves and wears a lovely pale gray gown. Her white apron is tied ever so neatly in the back and her blonde hair peaks out of the white cap that is reminiscent of a vintage nurse’s cap. Could she be a nurse taking flowers to a patient? I am unsure about the series of XXs on the apron. Does anyone know the story behind this? She is probably from the early 60s, too. She has the black sticker with gold Josef Originals with the curlicue on the side. On the bottom is etched the copyright Josef Originals and the black sticker with gold Japan in cursive. Holland – She is so pretty in pink. Her gown is trimmed in gold along the neckline as is the apron, along with 3 dainty flowers. Her Dutch cap is blue and the apron’s bow in the back is tied with perfection. She is a cute doll-baby. She also has the same markings as described in Sweden. The sticker on the side and bottom and the etching on bottom. Again, most likely early 60s. Germany – She looks like she’s feisty and fun. She dons a pale green gown with double poofs in the long sleeves. Her light brown hair is in braids with golden bows and she wears a white hat. She has flowers brimming the hat and hem of the apron and gold trim also on the hat, along the apron’s hem, waist, and neckline. She no longer has stickers, but has the copyright Josef Originals stamped in black on the bottom and a cursive Japan in pale gray. These figurines measure approximately 4 x 3.5”. They each have the signature black eyes which were produced in both California and Japan until the 80s. I am selling all 5 together in a bundle for 1 low price. Please note. These figurines are vintage hand painted items so crazing, fading, or paint production flaws are expected. I see no obvious imperfections, though. They are considered excellent to mint vintage condition. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs that I see. Please review the pictures with care, and ignore any lighting glares. I am happy to send additional pics if needed. All sizes are approximate. I do not clean the figurines as I do not wish to damage these treasures, so I leave that up to the buyer. Sold as is.
